Our courses are intended for the keen photographer who is looking to develop their photography skills into a profitable business. All our courses are very practical and therefore will involve a lot of picture taking, enabling you to create your own portfolio.

As a City & Guilds accredited centre, all our course include a City & Guilds accredited Workshop Diploma, up to an Ofqual level 3 qualification.

FPP is also an ELCAS approved learning provider and some of our courses qualify for ELCAS funding (Approved training provider for the UK Armed Forces) Working from two fully equipped studios all our staff are vastly experienced and formally trained and qualified. All staff hold at least their LRPS (Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society)

Short introduction courses to professional photography £60.00
(Saturday morning and weekday evenings)

Our short introduction courses are run on a Saturday morning and weekday evenings. The courses are aimed at the keen amateur photographer who is looking to develop their skills towards professional photography, and turning their hobby into a way of making money. The courses will give an insight on how to progress as a professional photographer as well as practical sessions in the studio and on location

All our short courses are 4 hours and are run on a Saturday 9.00-1.00 or two evening a week 6.30-8.30

As well as the theory, the courses are very practical and will involve a lot of photography with models, including a Bride and Groom for the wedding course. The aim of the courses is to give you an insight to these styles of photography, as well as some practical experience and to create a portfolio and maybe help you get you started in a career in Photography

Introduction to Wedding Photography

This course is for those who are thinking of getting into, or have been asked by family and friends to do their Wedding Photography and would like to gain some knowledge and practical experience of how to go about it. You will cover how to get started in the business, How to plan the day, understand what photography is required and how to achieve the desired results, as well as a practical photography session on location with a bride and groom.

You will leave the course with a certificate of attendance and the knowledge, practical experience and confidence to help start you into a career in Wedding Photography, as well as the enthusiasm to make it happen.

Introduction to on location Life Style Portrait Photography

This course is for those who are thinking of getting into on location Life Style Portrait Photography or just want to learn how to get great portraits of their family and friends out on location, and would like to gain some knowledge and practical experience. You will cover how to get started in the business, understand how to pose your subjects and set up your equipment to achieve the desired results, as well as a practical photography session on location with a model.

You will leave the course with a certificate of attendance and the knowledge, practical experience and confidence to achieve the desired results and get you started in a career in on location Life Style Portrait Photography, as well as the enthusiasm to make it happen.

This course is for those who are thinking of getting into Portrait Photography or just want to learn how to get great portraits of their family and friends in a studio, and would like to gain some knowledge and practical experience. You will cover how to get started in the business, understand how to pose your subjects and set up the equipment to achieve the desired results, as well as a practical photography session in the studio with a model.

You will leave the course with a certificate of attendance and the knowledge, practical experience and confidence to achieve the desired results and get you started in a career in Portrait Photography, as well as the enthusiasm to make it happen.

Introduction to Bumps, Baby and Children Photography

This course is for those who are thinking of getting into Bumps, Baby and Children Photography or just want to learn how to get great portraits of this genre of photography, and would like to gain some knowledge and practical experience. You will cover how to get started in the business, understand how to pose your subjects and set up the equipment to achieve the desired results, as well as a practical photography session in the studio with a model.

You will leave the course with a certificate of attendance and the knowledge, practical experience and confidence to achieve the desired results and get you started in a career in Bumps, Baby and Children Photography, as well as the enthusiasm to make it happen.

Introduction to Boudoir Photography

This course is for those who are thinking of getting into Boudoir Photography or just want to learn how to get great portraits of this genre of photography, and would like to gain some knowledge and practical experience. You will cover how to get started in the business, understand how to pose your subjects and set up the equipment to achieve the desired results, as well as a practical photography session in the studio with a model.

You will leave the course with a certificate of attendance and the knowledge, practical experience and confidence to achieve the desired results and get you started in a career in Boudoir Photography, as well as the enthusiasm to make it happen.

Introduction to Photoshop for the Wedding and Portrait photographer

This course is for those who would like to learn how to get better results using Photoshop, either as an amateur or professional. The course will start from opening an image in Photoshop, cropping, resizing and framing, converting an image to black and white, converting an image to black and white whilst keeping some in colour, adjusting levels, creating montages and subtle retouching techniques etc.

You will leave the course with a certificate of attendance and the knowledge, practical experience and confidence to achieve the desired results and get you started in a career in digital manipulation.

On completion of the course you will receive a certificate of attendance for the specific course you attend i.e. Introduction to Studio Portrait Photography (as shown). You will also gain hands on experience on getting started in these styles of photography and you will leave with a portfolio of all the images you have taken on the course that you can use for your own advertising and marketing and to show to potential clients (Example)

No formal entry qualification is required to attend these courses, only an interest for photography and a willingness to learn

Is there accommodation for the photography courses available?

We have negotiated a special price for people attending our courses with The New Westcliff Hotel (Telephone: 01202 551062, Website: www.newwestcliffhotel.co.uk).

Does the cost for the photography course include everything I need? Or are there any extra fees?

The cost of the photography course covers all that you will need, including lunch and refreshments throughout the day. The only extra cost will be for accommodation if required (see above).

Do I need to have some experience in photography before I can come on a course?

You do not need to have any commercial experience; however it would benefit you if you have a good basic understanding of your camera and exposures when taking photographs.

What do I need to bring with me to the course?

Your camera equipment including; camera, small zoom lens, flash unit and memory cards, laptop and card reader (all are available during the courses to borrow if required).

Is there any back-up to help me after the course?

Once you have attended the course we offer continuous support with no restriction on time scale. You are always welcome to email, call or visit us.

What is the dress code?

There is no formal dress code. We advise you to bring something warm and weatherproof for when we will be shooting on location.

Will I need any transportation?

Transportation will be available if you do not have your own.

What use of the images taken on the course will I have?

All images taken on the course can be used for promotional purposes i.e. websites, brochures, portfolio’s.

What food and refreshments are included?

Lunch and all refreshments, including snacks and hot and cold drinks will be provided throughout the day.

What is the maximum number of students on each course?

All courses are limited to six students with up to three full-time members of staff. Digital Manipulation courses are limited to 10 students

Terms of Business

  • A non-returnable deposit of £100 is required when booking with the balance to be paid on the first day of the seminar. Failure to give four weeks' notice of cancellation of seminar will require full payment still to be paid
  • Courses booked less than four weeks before the course start date- Full payment required when booking, no cancellations or refunds will be given
  • Bookings from outside the UK- Full payment required when booking, no cancellations or refunds will be given
  • Payment is required in full when booking private seminars
