Our courses are intended for the keen photographer who is looking to develop their photography skills into a profitable business. All our courses are very practical and therefore will involve a lot of picture taking, enabling you to create your own portfolio.

As a City & Guilds accredited centre, all our course include a City & Guilds accredited Workshop Diploma, up to an Ofqual level 3 qualification.

FPP is also an ELCAS approved learning provider and some of our courses qualify for ELCAS funding (Approved training provider for the UK Armed Forces) Working from two fully equipped studios all our staff are vastly experienced and formally trained and qualified. All staff hold at least their LRPS (Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society)

Practical portrait photography sessions in the studio using a variety of models, including males, females and children/babies, will focus on familiarity with studio equipment (including home/mobile studios) and lighting. We will teach you how to set-up the studio lights for different looks (including high and low key), measure the flash correctly and pose and direct your models.

The main objectives of the course are:

  • To Gain a City & Guilds workshop diploma in Portrait Photography
  • To give you the experience and confidence to become a successful professional portrait photographer
  • To gain practical experience in directing and undertaking a portrait shoot
  • For you to create a strong portfolio that you can use for advertising and to show to potential clients

Optional Extra Evening courses (Not eligible for, or part of any Elcas funded courses)

We run three evening courses that are run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Evenings 5:30-7:00. These are an optional extra offered to those attending our 3 day Portrait, 5 day Wedding and Portrait, 10 day advanced or 15 day course and are not eligible for, or part of any Elcas funded courses.

Bump and Baby £40.00 5:30-7:00

This course is an optional extra course offered to those attending our 3 day Portrait, 5 day Wedding and Portrait, 10 day advanced or 15 day course. It covers the genre of Bump and Baby photography which is not included in those courses.

It is not eligible for, or part of any Elcas funded courses.

This is a very popular studio sitting and can be very profitable. Some of our students are apprehensive and unsure how to approach this genre of photography, but understand that it’s very in vogue at the moment and offers a great earning potential. We will teach you various lighting techniques and how to pose and light a new-born baby

Bikini/Page 3 and low key classical figure £40.00 5:30-7:00

This course is an optional extra course offered to those attending our 3 day Portrait, 5 day Wedding and Portrait, 10 day advanced or 15 day course. It covers the genre of glamour photography which is not included in those courses.

It is not eligible for, or part of any Elcas funded courses.

We are often requested for a more glamorous type of portfolio and also with our make-over shoots some clients want to include this. Some of our students are apprehensive and unsure how to approach this genre of photography, but understand that it’s something they may be asked for. The course also covers the legal and ethical aspects of glamour photography.

Product Photography £40.00 5:30-7:00

This course is an optional extra course offered to those attending our 3 day Portrait, 5 day Wedding and Portrait, 10 day advanced or 15 day course. It covers the genre of product photography which is not included in those courses.

It is not eligible for, or part of any Elcas funded courses.

With most companies now having websites, product photography is an ever growing market. We will teach you how to set- up the studio lights for different looks and how to cost jobs to include image release certificates.

The main objectives of the seminar are;

  • To gain a workshop diploma in portrait photography
  • To give you the experience and confidence to become a successful professional portrait photographer
  • To gain practical experience in directing and undertaking a Portrait shoot.
  • For you to create a strong portfolio that you can use for advertising and to show to potential clients.

During the week we will cover the day to day running of our studio, including advertising, costs, pricing, working from commercial premises and mobile set-ups.

  • Instruction on how to set up the studio for a high key shoot

Model Make-over (Using high key set-up)

  • One of our most popular packages is a make-over and model shoot (this is not just for potential models) this is also sold as a gift voucher. It involves a professional makeover and a model shoot with three changes of clothes.

A continuation of the model make-over shoot with formal wear, e.g. A Cocktail Dress.

Couple/engagement shoot

Instructions and shoot on how to pose a couple for either an engagement /couple shoot. This will also demonstrate how we would pose a couple if we were photographing a function.

3 Day Portrait Course £595.00 (Mon-Wed)
City & Guilds Accredited Workshop Diploma

On completion of the course you will gain Studio Portrait Photography City & guilds accredited workshop diploma (as shown opposite) and have hands on experience of Portrait Photography, including marketing, directing and posing subjects and producing the final images for clients.

You will also leave with an extensive portfolio of all the images you have taken on the course that you can use for your own advertising and marketing and to show to potential clients.

This will give you the experience and confidence you need to start out on your own, or seek employment within this field.

All our courses are aimed at the keen amateur to the improving professional. No formal entry qualifications are required to attend this course, only an interest for photography, willingness to learn and lots of enthusiasm.

Once booked onto a course we will send you some pre-course notes to help bring you up to speed. On the First day of your course you will be given your course packs that contain all the course notes.

For the course you will need a digital SLR with a small zoom lens, a flash unit for your camera, AA batteries and a laptop. However any equipment you do not have will be lent to you free of charge.

Lunch and refreshments are provided throughout the day.

Does the cost for the photography course include everything I need? Or are there any extra fees?

The cost of the photography course covers all that you will need, including lunch and refreshments throughout the day. The only extra cost will be for accommodation if required (see above).

Do I need to have some experience in photography before I can come on a course?

You do not need to have any commercial experience; however it would benefit you if you have a good basic understanding of your camera and exposures when taking photographs.

What do I need to bring with me to the course?

Your camera equipment including; camera, small zoom lens, flash unit and memory cards, laptop and card reader (all are available during the courses to borrow if required).

Is there any back-up to help me after the course?

Once you have attended the course we offer continuous support with no restriction on time scale. You are always welcome to email, call or visit us.

What is the dress code?

There is no formal dress code. We advise you to bring something warm and weatherproof for when we will be shooting on location.

Will I need any transportation?

Transportation will be available if you do not have your own.

What use of the images taken on the course will I have?

All images taken on the course can be used for promotional purposes i.e. websites, brochures, portfolio’s.

What food and refreshments are included?

Lunch and all refreshments, including snacks and hot and cold drinks will be provided throughout the day.

What is the maximum number of students on each course?

All courses are limited to six students with up to three full-time members of staff. Digital Manipulation courses are limited to 10 students

Terms of Business

  • A non-returnable deposit of £100 is required when booking with the balance to be paid on the first day of the seminar. Failure to give four weeks' notice of cancellation of seminar will require full payment still to be paid
  • Courses booked less than four weeks before the course start date- Full payment required when booking, no cancellations or refunds will be given
  • Bookings from outside the UK- Full payment required when booking, no cancellations or refunds will be given
  • Payment is required in full when booking private seminars
  • All major credit cards are accepted
